Even the weather has been erratic. Heat waves in countries where they have never seen it before and rains and storms in other places of the world. In the UK sun one day, and chilling winds and rain the next and this our summer. What is happening to our weather patterns and the seasons?
Taking all this into account, why then are we not happy with our lot? The last decade has been one of greed and consumerism. Our clothes were recycled each year, the car lasted at least 10 years and food was grown in the vegetable plot. I am staggered by the amount of mortgage my friends have taken on and the number of credit cards they have, all maxed out. They have designer clothes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the latest TVs, luxury cars and both parents have to work to afford all this,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and they have become time poor, their children suffer but worse, have come to expect it as their right with no thought of what effect this is having on the earth and the health of the next generation and their children’s expectations.

I see all this as circular, the weather patterns, the money markets. Once Asia and China were where the riches were,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the west came next as manufacturing grew and now it is turning full circle again.
It may be that we wish to retrain in a more caring profession,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], aromatherapy, teacher, gardener, or become an eco warrior! Have a dream and work towards achieving the dream.
DOOM AND GLOOM
The truth is that we have never had it so good. We are wealthier, healthier and more asset rich than any previous generation. We are better educated and have more options in where we live and work, we take more holidays and our lifestyle has improved tremendously.
How do we overcome all this? Well first we have to look at ourselves. Of course we need to get our finances in order and downsize everything, our spending habits our need for more and more. Reconnect with the simpler things in life – a walk in the park, a holiday at home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], gardening,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], cooking nutritious food. Making more time for relatives,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], children, friends and partners and becoming more ethical.
Start to do what is fulfilling rather than chasing more success. Live a gracious life and those around you will feel the benefits too.
The banks and mortgage lenders were just as guilty offering us tempting loans, raising the credit limits and there really was the attitude of spend, spend, spend. Live for today and worry about paying for it tomorrow. The marketing people and advertisers presented it as normal that we should want a bigger house, designer clothes the economy is built on persuading us to spend to create more wealth for the government and large companies. We in fact got our priorities wrong and became the mad,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], bad consumers.
It has all happened before, in the 70s there was the 3 day week,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], petrol was rationed and people were struggling to feed their children. In the 80s mortgage interest was 15% and in the 90s there was a property crash but somehow, by tightening our belts and reducing our spending most of us came through it.
What a year! Are we trembling in our boots, do we feel fearful and uncertain about what the future holds.

Instead of spending more we are looking for new experiences and seeking to develop who we are as a person. Making do with what we have and downsizing our lives can only lead to more contentment.
Most of all trust trust that life with adjustments is perfect as it is. If we live a more fulfilling life and give to ourselves and others then we will emerge as healthier, happier human beings, the sun will shine more often, the universe will smile on us and the earth will be a better place.
Even in Australia they had tropical downpours, floods and cyclones. The wettest weather for 100 years but this followed years of drought and water shortages. The dams were full and overflowing, the waterfalls were spectacular, the farmers were happy and the gardens a mass of flowers after their drenching. They say ‘every cloud has a silver lining’!
I can’t help thinking that we all deserve this blip we are now experiencing. It is the universe saying hold on enough is enough, It is a lesson we need to learn, we can’t have all this luxury without having to pay the price. By becoming a throw away society with a live for today behaviour we have become selfish and greedy.

Ideally, you’ve maintained a great network of co-workers through regular communication with them. I always recommend that you email or message people in your network every 3-6 months or so with some article or bit of information they would find interesting. If you nurture your network, it will be there for you when you need it.

Whether this will trigger an upsurge in financial services social media remains to be seen. In guidance published on its website, FINRA offered fresh guidance about the approvals financial services need before communicating with potential or existing customers on social media sites or via Twitter. The guidance expands on a previously-issued regulatory notice from FINRA. The key message: brokerages have supervisory and recordkeeping obligations based on the content of the communications - whether it is business related - and not the media.
Before undertaking a financial services social media campaign,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], firms are advised to fully review the FINRA advisory. We note three key questions below and include the answers provided by FINRA:
Can employees use personal devices to deal with company business,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
May associated persons use personal communication devices and other equipment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], such as smart phone or tablet computer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to access firm business?
What if the employee is on his or her own machine?
Does determining whether a communication is subject to the recordkeeping requirements of Securities and Exchange Commission Rule 17a-4(b)(4) depend on whether an associated person uses a personal device or technology to make the communication?
Be aware also that when undertaking a financial services social media program that a broker who mentions his or her employer on a site such as LinkedIn must also get-approval from the firm. Broker-dealers don’t need preapprovals for so-called “unscripted interactions’ or instant messages but must alert their supervisors after the fact,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Answer: SEA Rule 17a-4(b)4 requires a firm to retain records of communications that relate to its “business as such.” Whether a particular communication is related to the business of the firm depends upon the facts and circumstances. This analysis does not depend on the type of device or technology used to transmit the communication,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not does it depend upon whether it is a firm-used or personal device of the individual; rather,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the content of the communication is determinative.

Must business messages be pre-approved?
Must material changes to static content posted by a firm or its associated persons on a social media site that contains business communications receive prior approval by a registered principal?
Answer: Yes. Firms may permit their associated persons to use any personal communication device, whether it is owned by the associated person or the firm,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for business communications. In order to ensure that the business communications are readily retrievable without necessitating the capture of personal communications made on the same device, firms should have the ability to separate business and personal communications. This may mean requiring that the associated person use a separately identifiable application on the device for their business communications.
Answer: NASD Rule 2210(1)(b) require a registered principal to approve each advertisement and item of sales literature before the earlier of its use or filing with FINRA’s Advertising Regulation Department. Firms are expected to adopt procedures requiring prior registered principal approval of any advertisement or sales literature that has been materially changed, even if it had been previously approved in an earlier version.

What happened was this: after a severe rainstorm, those hundreds of gallons of water spilled out through a broken gate in what became a very destructive flash flood. The rushing water washed away many of the nearby buildings and caused very expensive damage. Of course, the local people soon repaired the ruined gate but then,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], within a few days - after another prolonged rainstorm – the gate broke open again!
But, here’s what I’ve learned: What I thought were problems, were really blessings in disguise. It seems that there are times in my headlong rush through life that the Lord needs to get my attention by stopping me cold in my tracks. Then,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I am forced to take a good clear look at where I am – and where I’m going. As a result, now a days,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], my first reaction to a problem is to stop and pray for help.
As you may know, a cranberry bog resembles a large man-made shallow lake with many thousands of gallons of water all kept in place by a series of long,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], moat-like three or four foot high dikes with many wooden dams or gates placed in the dike to control the flow of the water.
This is the story about how a small, practically unknown town in the pine barrens of New Jersey got the name: Double Trouble. They say this small cluster of houses, barns, sawmills and sheds in a crossroads village in the backwoods of the flat pine barrens (near present day Toms River) got its unusual name years ago when, after an early October rainstorm,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a floodgate of the local cranberry bog broke.
I can remember times when I’ve had a problem,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and then before that problem was solved…along came another problem right on the heels of the first problem! At first, it was frustrating, dismaying and downright discouraging – to say the least.

What began as a double problem for the people, who lived there,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], soon became a “double blessing.” This was because people from all over the northeast then knew exactly how to find the place where the very unusual “double trouble” had happened. You see, the newspapers had called the place, for lack of a real name: Double Trouble,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], New Jersey.
A local newspaper reporter sent the story of this highly unusual flat lands flood to the big daily newspapers in Camden, Philadelphia and New York. It seemed everyone in New Jersey was then talking about the devastating “double trouble” that happened to this very small and unfortunate town in the almost flat land in south Jersey’s pine barrens.
